Successful hackathon on open public data

On 25 March we arranged our first in-person hackathon, together with Stockholm AI. It was a major success.

On 25 March 2026, Mimer, together with Stockholm AI, held our first in-person hackathon at the KTH Royal School of Engineering campus in Stockholm. A lot of high spirits and enthusiastic hackers – several customers of Mimer and members of Stockholm AI -– came together in four teams with their different skills and competences.

Participants were given access to an LLM hosted by Mimer, along with short setup instructions. In addition, MCP servers for Statistics Sweden (SCB) and the Swedish Central Bank (Riksbanken) were made available for gathering data. The proposed challenges were based on making use of that data.

There were plenty of mentors on hand to help, and lots of excellent pizza. With four teams and two hours, the results were very good. Several teams used additional tools that were not an integral part of the challenge, but one team stood out by following the instructions to only use OpenCode and the model provided by Mimer (Devstral 2 Small). They managed to create a beautiful and detailed graph showing unemployment in relation to inflation, and were rewarded with Mimer hoodies and intense cheering.

The other teams gave inspired demos, using pedagogical visual tools with maps and colour. Some simply ended up with broken demos, but still presented with a lot of pride. All in all, a very successful event! The feedback from the participants was very positive, and they asked for more. And more it will be! We will arrange the next instalment sometime before summer.
